Māngere College is turning 50 this year. And we want all past students, whanau and staff to join us in celebrating this special milestone.

The school’s foundation students first walked through the gates in 1971 and over its proud history, notable alumni include current Cabinet Minister Hon Willie Jackson, former All Black Frank Bunce, current All Black Ofa Tu’ungafasi, internationally acclaimed actor Jay Laga'aia and brothers Nainz and Viiz Tupai from the chart-topping R&B/soul group Adeaze.

The 50th Jubilee celebrations begin with a Pōwhiri on the 9th of April at 2pm. This important event will formally open the Jubilee and involves current students and teachers as well as the valued alumni community.

The Meet and Greet evening is the second event of the day, beginning from 7pm at Māngere College. This will be an informal get together for alumni students and staff, including food, DJ and a cash bar.

Māngere College Principal Tom Webb says that the 50th Jubilee is an exciting time of celebration which will bring together alumni students and staff from across the decades to celebrate and reminisce about the good times.

“Māngere College has a proud history of success and our 50th Jubilee aims to honour and value our different cultures through its various events in 2021,” he says.

“We are very excited to be celebrating 50 years of success at the school and we will be using this opportunity to connect better with our alumni. We are hoping to form lasting relationships with alumni that can benefit our students in the years to come.”

The Māngere College Jubilee Committee have been working hard to adapt to the complications of Covid 19 and have made some changes throughout the planning process. The school now has a focus on making 2021 a year of celebration for its 50th Jubilee, with celebratory community events spread across the year.

Māngere College invites past students, whanau, staff and anyone that has contributed to the life of the school to join us for the Pōwhiri and Meet and Greet events on April 9, 2020 at Māngere College.
